At the outset of World War II, America was not prepared for the great conflict and civilians would have to make sacrifices at home concerning goods and services to help sustain the troops fighting the war.

These articles appeared in the paper during the war telling the people the materials, such as rubber, metal, sugar, etc., that were needed or had been collected, and what they may need to do to continuously support the men fighting the war who were their sons and daughters, brothers and sisters.
